Event Description

"NC sixty" will be produced under the helm of Sundance Award Winning Writer/Producer/Director Erica Dunton. During the course of 2014 these 1 minute films/scenes will be shot in Wilmington, NC and will showcase 60 local actors in leading roles. Each short will be a single scene between two people. The films will then be premiered at the 2014 Cucalorus Film Festival in Wilmington, NC Nov 12th - 16th. The idea was inspired after Dunton taught a 'Craft of Acting Workshop' and realized that many local upcoming actors needed a scene or a reel to post to their 800Casting or Actor's access profiles.Www.800Casting.com costs $39 a year to join andwww.actorsacess.com is free. Both are used constantly by actors, producers, casting directors and agents all across the States to seek out actors for films, television and commercial productions, especially those that are not represented yet. You do not need to have an agent to have an 800Casting page or Actors Access page and even if you have an agent most will require that you have an on-line profile. Having a well produced, written and directed 1 minute scene to upload to an actor's 800Casting/Actor's Access profile is an invaluable way to showcase an individual's talent. "NC sixty" is for those who have not had the opportunity to get on camera before or who need more experience in front of it especially in a leading role. Wilmington, NC offers great opportunities for upcoming actors as so many productions have shot here including recently "Iron Man 3", "Under The Dome", "Revolution", "Eastbound and Down" and "Sleepy Hollow" so these scenes will a great way for local casting directors to see an actor's work. During 2014 Erica will hold 5 sessions of 12 students each and in these sessions she will work with the actors as a group and individually to write and produce these tailor made shorts. Each script will specifically lend itself to the individual actor's strength. At the end of the 4 sessions and shooting day each actor will walk away with their own 1 minute short that they have written and have the lead role in and also another 1 minute short where they will have played a supporting role opposite their partner. This opportunity is available to all ages including children and no experience is necessary. Only 60 places are available.

INFORMATION ABOUT THE SESSIONS AND SHOOT
(All 4 Sessions and Shoot included in the $650 price)

NC60 Session 1 (3 hours)
The 12 students will meet and study in depth the craft of acting and scene analysis. This session will not only look at the practical aspects of a scene but also how to break down sides and create relationships, conflict, beats and humor within the scene. Also we will explore the rhythm, pace, style of that scene and how to perform it to maximize the potential in all genres. We will really examine what makes a good scene and watch some brief examples. Students will then begin to brainstorm about the characters they could possibly play and the situations that they may want to write about for their 1 minute films. The idea is to tailor make the scripts to showcase the actor's specific strengths so a student will be confident that they are highlighting their best sides as an actor. We want to make a film that will maximize the chances of an actor getting an audition. Students will be paired up so they can begin to work with the supporting actor/character in their short and in turn prepare for the supporting role they will have in their partner's short. Homework will be assigned.

NC60 Session 2 (2 hours)
The pairs of students will book a private 2 hour session with Erica to begin writing their scripts. Erica will act as a script editor and consultant. Homework will be assigned.

NC60 Session 3 (3 hours)
The 12 students will meet up again and complete table reads and receive feedback of their scripts in front of each other. More work will be done in developing these scripts. The technical and practical side of filmmaking will also be discussed. Rehearsals will begin and discussion of props/hair/make-up/wardrobe/location will take place. Homework will be assigned.

NC60 Session 4 (2 hours)
In their pairs, students will book a final private 2 hour session with Erica to finalize their scripts and complete the rehearsal process. All practical requirements (props/hair/make-up/wardrobe/location) for the shoot will be confirmed. Homework will be assigned.

NC SHOOT DAY
The 12 films will be shot over a 3 or 4 day period. Shoot days will occur within 2 weeks of Session 4 and dates will be confirmed nearer the time to suit everyone's availability. Actors will be directed on set. Films will then be edited and delivered as a file ready to be uploaded to 800Casting or similar pages within 4 weeks of the shoot day. Part of the cost of the course will be used to cover all shooting expenses including crew, catering, equipment, insurance etc. and also to ensure that a quality looking film with high production values is produced and delivered.

ADDITIONAL CONSULTATION
The cost of an 800Casting page is $39 a year membership. For a small fee we will be on standby to help an actor set up the 800Casting page or their Actor's Access page if they feel that they need help with this.
